Module – Mapping (eng/esp)

Mapping

By applying a mapping we tell 3ds Max how to project textures onto surfaces, often using UVW Maps.
In these lessons we will explore other modifiers – from basic to advanced – to address specific situations, and learn how to solve all the problems in a simple way.

[ Note: if you’re new to Mapping first learn UVW Maps concepts, below in the appendix ]

LESSONS’ LIST

01 8′ 10”
Map Scaler – This modifier allows you to resize the object
through its parameters, without altering the scale of the map

02 7′ 05”
Renderable Spline – It allows you to set the renderable properties of a spline
and easily map roads, sidewalks and paths

03 09′ 00”
UVW XForm: If you have an object with complex UVW coordinates already applied,
you can use this modifier to further refine those coordinates.

04 7′ 05”
Basics of Unwrap 1 – Let’s approach this modifier with the first commands
“Wrap” along a Spline with fast management in the UV editor

05 5′ 35”
Basics of Unwrap 2 – How to manage the continuity of a texture
Let’s get familiar with the Pelt and Relax tools

06 9′ 00”
Advanced Unwrap – Let’s map a more complex mesh
The main trick is to identify and divide the main seams

07 12′ 00”
Map Channel – How to manage maps with channels
With Map Channel we can edit a map without affecting the others

APPENDIX

AP1 15′ 00”
Materials – There are various types of materials that are easy to manage and apply
from Physical Material presets to libraries: let’s apply and map some surfaces

AP2 11′ 00”
UVW Map – The first modifier to map surfaces in 3ds Max
With this tool you will be able to manage many surfaces
